Where to eat

Tremplin – has tasty mountain cuisine during the ski season. Located on the blue piste of Les Orgières, it has an amazing terrace overlooking Mont Blanc. The plat du jour is always worth a try.

Sous le Freddy – Ham, cheese and beignets – just delicious. Located just below the Le Freddy cable car, it’s open for lunch in winter and at lunchtime and in the evening during the peak summer season.

Rond de Carrotte – Located in Saint Gervais, this superb bistro is open throughout the year. It is known for its excellent food and cosy atmosphere. The best L'île flottante

La Fléche d’Or – About 1km walk from Le Squirrel in the hamlet of Le Bettex. La Fléche d’Or offers flavoursome food with panoramic views of Mont Blanc. In summer, the outdoor brasero is not to be missed.

Le Relais des Communialles – A gentle 1.5km walk up the road from Le Squirrel is Le Relais. A great spot for lunch, dinner and sundowners.

Le Galeta – located in Saint Gervais, is the place to eat Savoyard food at its best. A splendid eat in summer and winter

Mont Joly – it’s a proper hike. From Le Squirrel, it’s around 3.5 hours to the 2,525m summit, climbing over 1,000m in elevation. The views from the top are simply breathtaking. Good fitness and sturdy footwear are essential but the reward is unforgettable.

Nid d'Aigle - Take the scenic funicular railway from Saint-Gervais up to the “Eagle’s Nest,” perched at the foot of the Mont Blanc glacier. A dramatic and accessible way to experience the high mountains without a full alpine climb.

Col de la Fenêtre (Les Contamines) - a stunning 10km hike and a true favourite. The views are extraordinary, with vast open landscapes that feel almost otherworldly, the owners say it's like stepping into Middle-earth. One of the most rewarding walks in the area.

Ski touring - when the pistes are busy, ski touring offers peace, space, and a deeper connection to the mountains. There are several official routes close to the cabin. Equipment can be rented from shops in Le Bettex, just 800m away.

Mountain biking - electric and traditional mountain bikes are available to hire in Le Bettex. E-bikes have transformed mountain exploring, making it easier — and more fun — to venture further and discover quieter paths. There are official tracks as well as countless routes waiting to be explored.

Hiking – take a packed lunch and head off, there are endless hikes from Le Squirrel. Some easy. Some hard. But all rewarding.

Aiguille du Midi – Lunch at 3,842m? Take the ‘James Bond’ style cable car to the Aiguille du Midi and marvel at the spectacular views. It’s like being on top of the world
